Women’s Prize Founder-Director and bestselling author Kate Mosse will pair up with 2020 Women’s Prize for Fiction winner Maggie O’Farrell to share their writing advice and secrets in a creative writing workshop.

During this intimate ‘mistressclass’, Kate and Maggie will kick off talking about how they started writing, their journey to publication and beyond, and sharing their insight and tips for aspiring novelists. They will then lead you through some interactive writing exercises using the Women’s Prize Writing Journal, included in your ticket and suitable for writers at any stage of their journey. The session will close with a Q&A, providing you with the opportunity to pose your questions to these two outstanding writers.

Speakers:

Kate Mosse is the author of nine novels & short story collections. Her fiction – which has been translated into 38 languages and published in more than 40 countries – including the No 1 international bestselling Labyrinth, The Taxidermist’s Daughter and The City of Tears. She has also written four works of non-fiction including the best-selling, critically-acclaimed memoir An Extra Pair of Hands, four plays, contributed essays and introductions to classic novels and collections. A champion of women’s creativity, Kate is the Founder Director of the Women’s Prize for Fiction, sits on the Executive Committee of Women of the World and is the Founder of the global Woman in History campaign. She was awarded an OBE in 2013 for services to literature and women and was named Woman of the Year for her service to the arts in the Everywoman Awards. She is a Visiting Professor in Creative Writing and Contemporary Fiction at the University of Chichester and was a Visiting Writing Fellow at the Dutch Literature Foundation in 2019.

Maggie O’Farrell won the 2020 Women’s Prize for Fiction with her novel Hamnet. She is also the author of the Sunday Times No. 1 bestselling memoir I Am, I Am, I Am, and eight novels: After You’d Gone, My Lover’s Lover, The Distance Between Us, which won a Somerset Maugham Award, The Vanishing Act of Esme Lennox, The Hand That First Held Mine, which won the 2010 Costa Novel Award, Instructions for a Heatwave, shortlisted for the 2013 Costa Novel Award, and This Must Be the Place, which was shortlisted for the 2016 Costa Novel Award. She lives in Edinburgh.
