A first novel, set in Berlin and New Zealand, and from the rural 1950s to the present day. The story is about the Stilton family, Clifford (who has died, and whose diaries tell his story) and Etta, and their children Gene, Bridget, and Christina. Winner of the 1997 inaugural Adam Foundation Prize in Creative Writing at Victoria University.
