Hidden Histories: Research for Writers

Event details

Wednesday 10th Jan 2024

Online

Join us in the Writers’ Room for a whistlestop tour through the archives in this introduction to historical research.

What sources are available to writers? How can you make sure your research is rigorous, relevant and put to the best use? What surprising discoveries are waiting for you deep in the archives?

This webinar offers an introduction to historical research for writers, giving you the tools and know-how to navigate and work with trusted sources and archives to enrich your work, deepen your argument, and explore hidden histories.

We’ve brought together a brilliant panel of authors and expert researchers working across a range of fascinating fields – from the history of the stage to global conflict – to share their own approach to research (as well as plenty of practical tips). You’ll hear from international bestselling author Kate Mosse, historian and Publishing Executive at The National Archives Ela Kaczmarska; writer and professor Farah Karim-Cooper; and Findmypast newspaper archives expert Rose Staveley-Wadham.

Whatever your area of interest, you are sure to come away with a wealth of practical advice to help you approach your research and add depth and authority to your writing.
