Women’s Prize LIVE: Tayari Jones and Ann Patchett in conversation with Kate Mosse

Join us on 25th June 2020 7pm (BST) to hear former Women’s Prize for Fiction winners Tayari Jones and Ann Patchett read from their winning books An American Marriage and Bel Canto and have the opportunity to put your questions to them, as part of the #ReadingWomen celebration marking 25 years of the Women’s Prize for Fiction and the UK’s Independent Booksellers’ Week.

Tayari, who won the Women’s Prize in 2019, and Ann, who won in 2002, will be in conversation with Founder Director of the Women’s Prize and bestselling author Kate Mosse, discussing their writing, the impact of winning the Prize, their experience of the Covid-19 lockdown and book recommendations that have provided solace to them during these challenging times.

About our speakers:

Tayari Jones is the internationally bestselling author of four novels, most recently An American Marriage, winner of the Women’s Prize for Fiction 2019. An American Marriage was an Oprah’s Book Club Selection 2018 and was featured on Barack Obama’s summer reading list. She is the recipient of the Hurston/Wright Legacy Award, a United States Artist Fellowship, NEA Fellowship and a Radcliffe Institute Bunting Fellowship. She is also a member of the Fellowship of Southern Writers. Born in Atlanta, Jones is a graduate of Spelman College, University of Iowa, and Arizona State University. She is currently an A.D. White Professor-at-Large at Cornell University and Professor of Creative Writing at Emory University. She lives in Atlanta.

Ann Patchett is the author of eight novels, The Patron Saint of Liars, Taft, The Magician’s Assistant, Bel Canto, Run, State of Wonder, Commonwealth and The Dutch House. She was the editor of Best American Short Stories, 2006, and has written three books of nonfiction, Truth & Beauty, What now?, and, most recently, This is the Story of a Happy Marriage. She has won numerous prizes, including the PEN/Faulkner Award and The Women’s Prize for Fiction, and her work has been translated into more than thirty languages. She was named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time magazine. Patchett is the co-owner of Parnassus Books in Nashville, Tennessee, where she lives with her husband, Karl VanDevender, and their dog, Sparky.

Kate Mosse is a number one international bestselling novelist, playwright and non-fiction writer. The author of six novels and short story collections – including the multimillion-selling Languedoc Trilogy (Labyrinth, Sepulchre and Citadel) and Gothic fiction The Winter Ghosts and The Taxidermist’s Daughter, which she is adapting for the stage – her books have been translated into thirty-eight languages and published in more than forty countries. She is the Founder Director of the Women’s Prize for Fiction and a regular interviewer for theatre & fiction events. Kate divides her time between Chichester in West Sussex and Carcassonne in south-west France. The second novel in The Burning Chambers series, The City of Tears – which is set in Paris, London and Amsterdam – will be published on 14 January 2021.
